Hybrid Technology

The Comtech Casting®
process is a hybrid processing technique that combines
investment casting technology with closed die forging technology
to produce a product with forge quality strength and ductility
by developing our own internal forged ingot. This process
produces a forging identical in every characteristic to forgings
derived from mill supplied wrought raw material. This invention
mimics the process used by bar mills to roll ingots into bar.
Due to this innovation, KomTeK Technologies is able to pass on
the savings incurred by specialty mills to reduce tons of
material into small diameter bars.
The data presented here reflects results achieved for
Cobalt-Chrome and Metal Matrix Composites in the biomedical
market. The process lends itself to "customizing" of alloys for
specific applications as well as the inclusion of ceramics to
create Metal Matrix Composites (MMC), KomTeK MMC.
The processes represented by this data is applicable to many
different alloys and markets applications. The advantages of
these hybrid technologies is reduced cost, reductions in lead
time without concern of the product satisfying all the
mechanical, physical and metallurgical specifications of a
forged product.
